Gordon Shedden expects Team Dynamic’s new recruit, Matt Simpson, to push himself and fellow teammate Matt Neal in 2017. Simpson joins the team under the “Simpson racing” banner, but will be fully involved in the Team Dynamics squad.
“We’ll fully prep the car, we’ll run it at race weekends, and I think he’ll learn a lot from the pair of us [Shedden and Neal], so he should find a bit of a step,” the current BTCC champion told Overtake Motorsport.
Though Simpson didn’t make too much of a splash in his debut season in the
BTCC, Shedden believes the youngster is a quick driver and he’ll be able to show that this season.
“He was quick last year in testing,” Shedden said. “He looked like he was on it. But I think, perhaps, that single car team just lost their way a little bit. We’ll make sure that doesn’t happen this year.
“He’s got exactly the same bits as we’ve got, so he’s going to step up to the plate and I’m sure we’ll see some good improvement as the year goes on.”
Shedden expects to see his new teammate on the podium, a big step up from last season, and believes Simpson may even have a chance at a win as the season progresses.
